
Global Warming-The Inferno Within - Art Exhibition by Purnima Bhattacharya.
Initiated into the field of fine arts by her artist grandmother, the eldest sister of the famous artist brothers, Sharoda, Boroda and Ronoda Ukil, Purnima Shanta Bhattacharya graduated in 1966 from Government College of Art , Calcutta, the oldest art college in India.
She also completed her post graduation in Art Appreciation from Calcutta University where she stood first in her class. With 15 years of teaching experience of fine arts in schools, colleges and at the Jammu University, and forty-five long years in this field, she has held a number of exhibitions of her work, not only all over India, but also abroad, including the USA.
Always painting for a good and noble cause, this time Purnima has, through her latest work and in her own inimitable style, depicted the hazardous consequences of global warming and which like cancer is slowly and steadily destroying our beloved planet.
Married to an army officer, a retired Brigadier from the famous Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, Purnima is dedicating her work once again to raise funds for the higher education of the girl children of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation at Kargil.
Her last exhibition at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, titled 'Moon the Symbol of Unity in all Religions', was held in May 1991. That was done with the sole aim to promote 'National Integration' and it was opened by His Excellency, Mr C. Subramanium, the then Governor of Mumbai.
